Brave activists have put their bodies on the line to block the dumping of mining waste into Norway’s pristine fjords. Now the mining company is threatening them with a multimillion-dollar lawsuit! But these people refuse to back down: they are taking their fight directly to Oslo, and we can make their voices impossible to ignore. Sign now and share to urge Prime Minister Støre to stop this dumping immediately! Førdefjorden is home to wild salmon, cod, and endangered cold-water corals. Yet, the Norwegian government just granted a permit allowing a mining company to dump millions of tonnes of toxic waste straight into these waters – this could be irreversible, burying this fragile ecosystem alive. Activists decided to take matters into their own hands by placing themselves between heavy machinery and the fjord to halt operations. As a response, they were forcibly removed by the police and are now being threatened by a multimillion-dollar lawsuit by the company! This is where we come in: Norway sells itself globally as a leader in ocean conservation, and PM Støre cares enormously about the country’s international reputation. By creating a wave of global public pressure, we can help protect this ecosystem. Let’s act NOW – as our partners bring this battle directly to Støre’s doorstep:

Dear Terezinha,

The mining giant is attempting to crush the activists with legal bullying. It’s a deliberate tactic to bankrupt them, scare them away, and send a warning to anyone else who dares to resist. But they are not backing away and are moving the battlefield to Oslo!
Ironically, Prime Minister Støre co-chairs the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy and cares deeply about Norway’s global reputation. He cannot present himself to the world as an ocean protector while sanctioning the destruction of his own country’s fjords.
Our partners will bring our voices to his cabinet and to the media. Let’s show that the world is watching. Raise your voice now:

Last time we fought in Norway, it was to stop deep-sea mining – and we won! All over the planet, the Avaaz community defends our oceans and the magnificent creatures that call them home. It's the only way to secure a liveable, healthy planet for future generations. Today, let’s stand in powerful solidarity with local activists in Norway.
With hope and determination,
Nádia, Lilian, and all the Avaaz team in solidarity with local activists (see more photos in the link below)
