Dear friends,

“Every day they came to rape me. Sometimes one at a time, sometimes two, sometimes three of them.” This little girl was 12, and she lived in El Fasher, Darfur, before it was destroyed.
Then there was the slaughter. The bloodbath in El Fasher was so big it was visible from space.
The UN says the massacre bore the “hallmarks of genocide.” The UAE backs and bankrolls the rebels who did it, and its top officials have blocked every effort to hold the government accountable.
And now, Trump and the UAE are pushing hard for one of those officials, Lana Nusseibeh, to be chosen as the next UN Secretary-General.
The UK and France could still veto the Nusseibeh, but insiders tell us Trump has unleashed a massive global pressure campaign backing her candidacy. We only have days before the vote, and our allies are marching into meetings in London and Paris to stop this. Sign now so we can send them into the meetings backed by a massive wave of global support.

Nusseibeh claims she would be an independent UN Secretary-General. But over her career as the UAE’s ambassador to the UN and deputy minister of foreign affairs, she has covered up her country’s support for a genocidal militia in Sudan and violations of the Security Council’s own arms embargo.
The U.N. chief is supposed to be the strongest voice protecting civilians from war, starvation, and genocide. Giving the job to someone who instead covered those things up would be an insult to the survivors and a betrayal of everything the UN stands for.
It’s not just Sudan at stake. Nusseibeh entered the race at the last-minute after the US vetoed all other candidates, and insiders say she’s been Washington’s pick from the start to gut the UN from the top. Just like Elon Musk did to the entire US humanitarian aid system.
The UK and France swear they want to help the people of Sudan and to protect the UN from Trump’s attacks. We can’t let them approve a UN chief that would do Trump’s bidding and shield her country while it stands accused by the UN itself of enabling genocide. Join the global outcry and share it with everyone you know.

Sudan has a special place in the heart of our movement: support from Avaaz members around the world powered the lifesaving work of brave local volunteers to run local kitchens and clinics for hundreds of thousands of people. It also went to support the incredible work of journalists and human rights defenders who risked their lives to break the blackout that Sudan’s warlords tried to impose to hide their atrocities from the world. This is our chance to oppose the confirmation of a UN chief who ran cover for her country’s role in Sudan’s suffering.
With hope and determination,
John, Bieta, Nate, Mo, Will, Shayna, Ben, and the whole Avaaz team
