Nobel peace laureate Narges Mohammadi could die in prison. After brutal beatings, a hunger strike, and now a suspected heart attack, she's been rushed to hospital in critical condition – but without massive pressure, she could be dragged straight back behind bars. Sign now to demand her urgent release — before it's too late. Narges Mohammadi risked everything to defend women’s rights and stop horrific executions in Iran. Now her life is in danger. After years of imprisonment, brutal beatings and abuse, Narges has been rushed to hospital, her chest screaming with pain after a suspected heart attack. Her family fears she could be sent back to prison before she gets the long-term care she urgently needs. But we have a rare moment to push for her freedom: Iran is trying to stabilize a fragile ceasefire, and key governments can press for Narges’ medical leave as a show of goodwill during peace talks – before it's too late. Dear friends,

Add your name now and when our call is massive, we’ll push governments to demand immediate and unconditional medical leave for Narges — and freedom for all Iran’s political prisoners:

Narges faced months of dangerous medical delays before she was rushed to hospital -- and if she is sent back, her family says she will not survive. And freeing Narges could help others: Narges is one of Iran’s most recognized political prisoners. If governments speak her name publicly, it can force scrutiny on the thousands of protesters, journalists, women’s rights defenders, and activists also trapped behind bars.
Iran has room to act. Its own wartime provisions allow emergency releases and temporary leave, and authorities already released some prisoners before Nowruz. Granting Narges adequate medical leave would not require a new concessions, but would mean applying powers Iran already claims to have.
Our moment is now: In the middle of delicate talks, Iran likely doesn’t want global attention fixed on a woman whose “crime” was speaking up for her fellow citizens. France has raised concern over Narges’s health, the EU has called for her release, and 74 civil society groups are calling for political prisoners to be freed as part of any peace process.
Let’s turn these signals into a united roar for freedom: a million-strong call can help push governments with influence over Tehran to demand immediate medical leave for Narges and freedom for thousands of others unjustly imprisoned. Partners are already engaging officials who can influence Iran – add your name now to back them up:

We know our voices matter in cases like this. Avaaz members helped push Pakshan Azizi’s case into the spotlight, and we recently helped Betty escape life-threatening conditions in Moroccan prison. It’s not guaranteed – but when enough of us speak out together, we can make a difference in the lives of those imprisoned for their bravery.
With hope and determination,
Liliana, Mo, Banafshe, Alice, Nate and the entire Avaaz team
