Ebola is back, and spreading. Trump's brutal budget cuts stripped outbreak response systems to the bone just as health workers need them most. Now they're risking their own lives to contain the virus before it spreads further, but they urgently need millions of us to push our governments to release emergency funding and other resources NOW. Every minute counts. Join and share. "I'm on panic mode" – that's how one public health official described the Ebola outbreak now spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dozens are already dead, there is no treatment or vaccine for this strain, and Trump's brutal cuts to global health funding are threatening the race against time to contain the virus. What happens next matters and depends on all of us, whether we are close or far away. The last major Ebola outbreak infected more than 28,000 people, and doctors are warning that the world cannot afford to be slow. Right now, medical teams are preparing to rush in. Our job is to have their backs, pushing governments to unlock the support they need to save lives and contain the outbreak in time. This is hitting the news right now, let's show that a million people around the world want urgent action. If you feel fear reading this, but also deep gratitude for the health workers preparing to save every life they can: sign now, and share this with friends and family.

Dear friends,

"I'm on panic mode" – that's how one public health official described the Ebola outbreak now spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While countries like the DRC have significant experience responding to crises like this, there are many complicating factors: lower funding for public health, no vaccine against this deadly strain, and conflict across the region overwhelming the system. That's why we need wealthy governments to step up now. In an interconnected world where people work and travel across borders, we need more collaboration, more funds, and more attention to public health that doesn't stop at lines on a map – for example, reports say several Americans have been exposed.
Most of us remember the Covid pandemic. And while the WHO has been clear that this outbreak doesn't meet the criteria for a pandemic, living through one gave us a taste of the cost of acting late, or not enough.
When our governments are deciding what to do, citizens showing huge public demand – and solidarity with the health workers and families affected at the front lines – can help tip the balance in favour of releasing more resources, fast. Let's all be a part of it and share this with everyone we know:

When Ebola tore through West Africa more than ten years ago, Avaazers did something extraordinary: they signed up to volunteer their skills and time with humanitarian organisations responding on the ground. Saving lives is at the core of what our community does, and here's a chance to use our collective voice to do it again, so let's not waste it. Let's get to a million this week.
With hope,
Patricia, Antonia, Joana, Nadia and the whole Avaaz team
