Avaaz is trying to help at least 50 women immediately escape the Taliban. We can't tell you their names for their own safety -- but they are mothers, sisters and daughters who bravely resisted and protested against one of the world's most brutal regimes. In Afghanistan today, it's essentially illegal to be a woman. They can't get an education, go out alone, or even sing in public. So when these women dared to speak out, they were beaten and hunted by the morality police. They fled to Pakistan with their families. But now, they're about to be sent back -- and the Taliban are waiting. The women face being imprisoned, tortured or raped. For many, deportation is a death sentence. This is a fundraiser to help them escape. Avaaz is close to securing expedited visas for those most in danger, but they need funding for the actual relocations. Your donation would pay for emergency travel, legal fees, and relocation costs -- helping dozens of women to find safety in a new country. And that's just the beginning. Together we'll also support Afghan women to raise their voices for justice at the world's highest court, where four major countries could soon launch a historic case against the Taliban. And continue our campaigns for human rights around the world. There's no time to lose. Police in Pakistan are going door-to-door, and two women have just been found and deported. Your donation is an urgent lifeline. Please give what you can now:
| Dear friends, | | Avaaz is trying to help at least 50 women immediately escape the Taliban.
Your donation is an urgent lifeline. Please give what you can now: | | | | | | | | | | | |  Under Taliban rule, women in Afghanistan can't learn, travel, or even sing in public. Women who speak out have been tortured and disappeared, and many fled to neighbouring Pakistan. But now they are being sent back -- together we can help them relocate to safety before it's too late. These women have survived unimaginable horrors at the hands of the Taliban. One woman was burned with boiling oil for refusing a forced marriage. Another was a national sports star, violently beaten after protesting on the streets. They're community leaders, journalists, teachers, and prominent women's rights activists. Over 430,000 of us signed Avaaz's petition to protect them -- and we've already secured a path to resettlement in Brazil for many of the women. This is amazing! Now we urgently need funds for the actual relocations. This is our moment to act. Right now, we simply don't have enough to get all the women to safety. If we raise enough, we could: - Evacuate Afghan women's rights defenders to safer countries, before they're forced back into the Taliban's hands;
- Fund emergency visas, safe housing and medical care for survivors stranded in Pakistan -- some hiding in abandoned buildings to avoid arrest;
- Strengthen the planned case against the Taliban at the International Court of Justice, collecting testimonies and supporting Afghan activists to share their stories with the world;
- Support Avaaz's frontline campaigns for democracy and human rights, building a rebellion against rising authoritarianism around the world.
The Taliban know Afghan women will not give up. That's why they're cracking down on the very activists who are leading the resistance in Afghanistan and abroad. If thousands of us from across the world give just a little, we could provide the urgent help they need to escape. Please donate what you can now: | | | | | | | | | | | In the face of horror, these women raised their voices, took to the streets, and dared to dream of a better future. Now, as authoritarian regimes are rising across the globe, intent on crushing human rights, we must meet their courage with our own. We can't afford to look away… and we won't! With hope and determination, Camille, Kaitlin, Lily, Ruth, Bieta, Nate, Sarah, Miguel and the entire team at Avaaz Who are the women we're helping?They are dozens of brave Afghan women who stood up to the Taliban -- and are in immediate danger.- Fatima* was a teacher and organiser of the "Bread, Work, Freedom" protests. She was tortured so badly she suffered spinal injuries. The Taliban has distributed her photo at checkpoints to ensure her capture.
- Amina, a former wheelchair basketball player, lost her leg in a bombing. She stayed to protest for women's rights -- then was tortured for demanding answers after fellow activists disappeared.
- Laila, a journalist, was helping women gain independence by offering sewing classes when the Taliban raided the centre. She was detained, beaten, and warned to flee or be killed.
- Zahra led protests as a teenager and was beaten unconscious in the streets.
Your donation will help evacuate them to safety. It means shelter, legal support, and relocation costs. Without it, they risk being deported straight into Taliban hands.*We've used pseudonyms to hide their identities. PS. This might be your first donation to our movement ever.
